Scouts on Skis

At present we are collecting contact details of interested Scouts.  Please send us an e-mail if you might be interested in this once face-2-face scouting resumes.  Signing up for further information does not commit you to participating.

Have you ever wanted to try skiing, or wish to improve your existing technique?  Forth Region Scouts organise blocks of ski lessons for Scouts attending any group in the Forth Region.  These typically run in the Autumn term and are held at Polmonthill Ski Centre, near junction 4 on the M9.  Lessons are provided by centre instructors in groups of 8-12 persons from across the Forth Region.  Where possible we will arrange groups based upon existing ability - complete beginners are definitely encouraged - why not bring a scouting friend and try something new!

Where: Polmonthill Ski Centre, FK2 0YE
When: TBC
Cost: TBC for the block of lessons.  To be paid in advance to secure your place. Ski equipment is provided.

What you need to bring: Outdoor clothing suitable for the weather.  Old waterproof trousers are recommended due to the water mist system used on the slope. Gloves are required, and long sleeved top required. Water bottle.

Please note that these sessions will only run if we have sufficient numbers, and we may operate a reserve list.

The 'small' print:  Please note that we cannot refund any fee for any non-attendance.  If you withdraw from the block we can only refund remaining session fees if we have someone suitable on the reserve list willing to fill your place.  This decision would be at the discretion of the leaders in consultation with the instructors.

Safety is paramount, however snowsports carry the risk of serious injury, and participation recognises this and is an acceptance of that risk.  Helmets (supplied) are mandatory.  Existing skiers may use their own helmets if approved by centre staff. Participants are expected to adhere to all centre safety rules and instruction at all times - failure to do so may result in being withdrawn from the course without refund.

Staged Activity Badge

Learning to ski on the artificial slope at Polmonthill counts towards the Snowsports 1 & 2 Staged activity badges.  Some additional work is needed to gain these badges.  We aim to organise this as part of the session, but this can also be completed within your own group.
